Bradley D. Branch, 25, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, allegedly forced several cars off the highway while driving through a construction area during the chase, Nebraska State Patrol Trooper Frank Bohac said. No injuries were reported. Branch was apprehended while trying to escape on foot after his car blew its engine, Bohac said. The chase began at the Gibbon interchange when Bohac allegedly clocked Branch traveling west on the interstate at over 90 mph.

788-2525. 1920 sq.ft., 600 Calvert, 489-8990, 483-7651. OMAHA (UPI) An Omaha man was found dead near a smoldering fire at his home southwest of downtown, authorities said Monday. The victim was identified as William Bailey, 54. An autopsy was planned to determine the cause of death.

District Fire Chief Don Brunken said the fire apparently started in a chair and burned through the carpet to the flooring. "It smoldered quite awhile," he said. "It kind of just burned until it ran out of oxygen." Brunken said Bailey's body was found 10 to 15 feet inside the front door by Larry Malmos, who was planning visit his mother at a house next door to Bailey's. Brunken said Malmos discovered the fire when he went to Bailey's house to report that Bailey's car had rolled ahead into a car owned by Malmos' mother. Malmos carried Bailey from the house to the front porch, Brunken said.

He said Bailey was dead at the scene. The fire was reported at 2:16 p.m. af Lancaster County district court judges to rotate assignments starting July 1- Some of Lancaster County's six district court judges will rotate assignments and change courtrooms on July 1, in the County-City Building at 555 S. 10th St. Similar shifts are made yearly.
