4S469-3t-November 24, 26, 2 NOTICE OF ORGANIZATION OF MILLION AIR L.L.C. Pursuant to the previsions of the Nebraska Limited Liability Company Act. Notice of Organization Is hereby elven as follows: 1) The name ef the limited liability company Is Million Air L.L.C 2) The address of the registered office ef the limited liability company Is: Don Janssen 9 If you think applying a winter mulch is like tucking in your plants until spring, you may be taking exactly the right action for precisely the wrong reason. In most cases the aim of a winter mulch is not to keep the ground from freezing around plants, it's to keep frozen ground from thawing. It protects plants against frost heaving, alternate freezing and thawing that can injure plant roots and push plants and bulbs out of the soiL The major exceptions to that rule are roses and strawberries.

In roses, the main aim of winterizing is to protect the graft union from freezing. The graft union is the place where the named variety, the flowering part, was grafted onto the root stock. If that place isn't protected, the top part may be killed. Though strawberries are susceptible to frost heaving, they need a winter mulch primarily to protect the flower buds that will become next year's fruits. Temperatures below 15 degrees can damage or kill flower buds.

Mulching protects the buds against low temperatures. The key in mulching strawberries is to wait until plants are dormant before mulching. Applying mulch before growth stops may cause the plant crowns to rot. But be sure to apply mulch before tempera- -tures drop below 20 degrees. One of the best mulches for strawberries is, you guessed it, Expert shines light on illuminating living space 2515 Clayton Ct.

Mulches around landscape plants reduce the need to water and keep lawn maintenance equipment at a distance.

This can prevent damage to bark that can lead to invasion of plants by insects or disease organisms. Mulching to retain soil moisture is especially important around newly planted ornamentals, which tend to have limited root systems for the first year or two after planting and so are more susceptible to drought than established plants. Other possibilities are chopped cornstalks, hay, corn cobs or bark chips. Avoid using tree leaves or grass clippings, they tend to form thick mats that can smother plants.

Spread one bale of straw per 100 square feet to a depth of 3 to 5 inches. Other materials can be used with other plants. Chopped leaves and compost are excellent for perennial and bulb beds because they insulate well but plants can push up through them in the spring. Bark chips often are used around trees and shrubs. Mulch the root zone but dont allow the mulch to lap up against the trunk or main stems.

The mulch could provide cover for mice and enable them to gnaw on the bark and girdle the plants. Strawberries have to be uncovered as soon as growth starts in the spring. The winter mulch can then become summer mulch between the rows, where it will help control weeds and slow loss of moisture feel comfortable," he explained. That means no ceiling lights shining directly down on seating areas. It means pink light bulbs (the experts call them or new-generation fluorescent tubes that cast skin-friendly light.

Whitehead showed light sources, especially ambient ones, in wall sconces that direct lighting up and out. Lights are hidden behind ceiling beams and moldings. Sometimes they're just placed atop a tall piece of furniture or tucked behind a plant for a dramatic uplight. Whitehead gave his audience another laugh when he referred to strips of vanity lights used to frame bathroom mirrors as "Bozo balls." But he noted that when used on each side of a mirror, they are far superior to an overhead fixture. The best bathroom lighting would have 'two light sources, Whitehead said.

One would approximate daylight for daytime makeup, another an incandescent light source for evening looks. With innovative new lighting aids being marketed monthly, solutions to lighting problems abound. "I'm in awe of interior designers. They have so much to absorb," he said. "There's so much to learn, with new fixtures, lamps, code requirements and regulations arriving every month." California, for example, requires some fluorescent lighting in all new construction.

But there are 200 light colors available in fluorescent, making it a much more attractive and flexible lighting choice. Low-voltage systems are wonderfully compact light sources car interiors use them that have been improved for home use. Whitehead showed how they can be recessed behind molding for a subtle space-saving glow. Recessed "can" lights can be retrofitted to make them more directional shine light at a wall or object instead of straight to the floor, he explained. In a lecture full of practical ideas, Whitehead saved some of his best advice for last.

"You know why people always gather in the kitchen during a party?" he asked. "Because the lights are brighter there." Dim or darken the kitchen and guests will go where you direct them with judicious use of light Use yellow light bulbs outside. Bugs prefer white. Clean sensors that turn tights on automatically. If they're dirty, they react as if it's dark outside and activate the lights.

Shop around. A half-bowl wall sconce can cost $35 to $450 and shed the same amount of light the same way. DON'T: Put a lighting fixture over a bathroom mirror. Use red heat lamps in a bathroom. Put halogen bulbs In anything but a porcelain socket.

They're so hot they'll melt plastic. Rely on accent or task lights to illuminate a room. BY SUSAN PHINNEY Seattle Post-Intelligencer Good lighting can do a lot to make a home more inviting, especially where fall and winter descend like a damp gray blanket and the sun can hide for weeks. Good lighting doesn't have to cost a lot, and it doesn't take a degree in electrical engineering to achieve. In fact, today's lighting experts come from many backgrounds photography and theater lighting to name just two.

Says who? Says Randy Whitehead, a San Francisco-based lighting expert and author of "Lighten Up!" (Light Source Publishing, $38). Whitehead recently gave a lighting seminar for interior designers, and his talk was packed with information that amateurs use. "You can pay a lot of money for bad lighting, he declared before launching into a slide showlecture illustrating the good, bad and downright ugly of interior lighting. 7" The crowd howled at a picture showing a kitchen with so many recessed downlights that the ceiling looked like Swiss cheese, occupants looked haggard, and bodies cast shadows on work surfaces. The room even had a useless spotlight on the refrigerator.

There is more laughter at a living room lit only by a ceiling fixture, a television set and a dinky floor lamp with a shade that directs light toward the floor. "TV is not ambient lighting," he deadpanned. Ambient lighting is soft, unobtrusive general light that fills space. It's one of three types of lighting that need to be "layered" in a room. Accent lighting is used to highlight things a coffee table or piece of art, for example.

Task lighting is for work surfaces light that focuses between head and tasks at hand, like hand-sewing or chopping vegetables on a kitchen counter. Ambient light is all important, Whitehead said. It gives eyes an overview of a room and the people in it If a room is lit with a series of table lamps, for example, it becomes a lamp showroom. Too many recessed downlights leave a series of light puddles. Both draw eyes from one light source to another, leaving faces in shadow or unflattering light.

"Lighting needs to make people Randy Whitehead's list of Ighting do's and don'ts: DO: Install dimmers. They're Inexpensive and very effective. Use only 25-watt bulbs for porch and driveway lighting. They're bright enough. Place furniture before designing the lighting for a room.

Use opaque lampshades to direct light more effectively. Make sure recessed lights are adjustable so objects can be moved around and still be properly lighted. If a lamp Is decorative, not functional, use only a 25-watt bulb. Consider fluorescent lighting. It's vastly Improved.
